| Our Fair this year will be held over a three-day period - August 1 - 3, at the Fire Training Grounds (290 Ballagner Road, Roscommon). Events include a beauty pageant, mud bog, horse show and more! Come enjoy the fun!

The Week of August 4, 2008
Come on out to the Roscommon County Fair! The festivities begin at noon on Friday, August 1st and run through Sunday, the 3rd. Just some of the events this year include is the 2008 Roscommon County Beauty Pageant, Beautiful Baby and Little Sweetheart Contest, horse-drawn wagon rides, exotic animals, children’s games and blow-up rides, radio controlled airplanes, operating toy trains, and more. Don’t miss the exhibits of flowers, arts and crafts, produce, and hobbies. The ever popular Mud Bog is back too! This year the Fair will be hosting a Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band on Saturday the 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.00, children 10 and younger are FREE with a paying adult.
Village business owners – the Roscommon Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is here to help you. Have you had an opportunity to look into the 5-5-5-5 Grant Façade Program. If you have been thinking about improving the outside of your business, here’s your opportunity! The DDA is partnering with downtown property owners in order to enhance the beauty and charm of the downtown area. Matching funds are available for commercial façade improvements with a reimbursement of 50% (up to $5,000) for an approved storefront renovation. Do you need a new sign, awning, exterior painting, windows or doors or storefront restoration? Call the Village Hall at 275-5743 for information or an application. Applications are also available online at www.roscommonvillage.com
Texas Holdem’ Tournaments are back! Come on out to the Roscommon Knights of Columbus Hall on Saturday, August 23. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. with play at 6:00 p.m. There is a $50 buy-in and refreshments will be available. For more information or to register, call the Chamber at 275-8760.
Village sponsored Garage/Sidewalk Sale August 22 & 23 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.! Village residents and downtown retailers that wish to participate, please call the Village at
275-5743 to register. The Village will provide the advertising FREE of charge, and no permits are needed. Your location will be added to a list with an attached map that will be available for distribution at the Village Hall and local business before the sale. Locations will also be available downtown for residents that do not have a place to have a sale.
The Chamber has also just received Firemen’s Memorial badges! Come and get yours for only $2.00. This year the Festival will run from September 18 to 21. Stop in for your badge and list of events. Thursday, September 19 is family night at the Fire Training Grounds. Come on over for free hot dogs & pop at 5:00 p.m., There will be craft projects for children, the kids fire safety trailer and a magic show in the Red Barn at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, the Annual Memorial Service and placing of Memorial Wreaths at the Firemen’s Memorial site beings at 9:00 a.m. with the parade through downtown Roscommon at 11:00 a.m.

The Higgins Lake-Roscommon Chamber of Commerce is always seeking ways to better serve our members and the community. Please let us know how we can help you.
Come on over to Scott McNamara Ford, Lincoln, Mercury in Roscommon Friday and Saturday, August 22 and 23, for the 16th Annual Car Show. Friday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., come on out for the Car Cruise Poker Run followed by a 50’s-60’s dance and chicken BBQ at the Roscommon Lions Club, $20 per car. Car show registration is open from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. on Saturday the 23rd. Pre-registration is $8, registration at the door is $10. There will be a pig roast at 2:30 p.m. and an Awards Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Spectator admission is $1, with children under 12 FREE. Proceeds from spectator admission will go to the River House Shelter. For more information call 275-8922.
Garage and Sidewalk Sale sponsored by the Village of Roscommon is this Friday and Saturday, August 22 and 23, from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Village will provide. Pick up your ‘map’ at the Village Hall or local businesses.

Wellington Farm, USA, will host its annual Tractor and Farm Equipment Show this weekend at its park near Higgins Lake. Activities begin Friday, August 22, at 4:00 p.m. Tractors will parade from Wellington Farm to Grayling for a traditional farm supper. Tractor owners wishing to participate can call the Park at 888-653-3276 to register. Park gates will open at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Activities include threshing, baling with a turn of the century baler, tractor games, food concessions and an operating Clover Huller. The sawmill, blacksmith shop and grist mill will be in operation. The General Store is stocked with produce items, jams and jellies, baked goods and gift items. If you haven’t been to the Farm, come on out this weekend. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students. The Park is at 6940 South Military Road between Higgins Lake and Camp Grayling, accessed by US-127, I-75 and M-72. For more information call the Park at 888-653-3276.
Members of the Pen and Palette Guild, A Roscommon area organization of artists, will display their work at a free exhibition along the trails of the Gahagan Nature Preserve in Roscommon August 23 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visitors will be able to talk with the artists, ask questions, view the art work an be reached by turning onto South Line Road from M-18 near Scott McNamara Ford-Lincoln-Mercury.
